The Three Little Pigs

I'm working on putting together a Fairy Tale unit, and I thought I would share some of my favorite ideas for...

The Three Little Pigs

Three Little Houses

Materials for each group of students
3 Brown Paper Bags
Construction paper
Markers or crayons
Straw from a craft store (optional)
Small sticks (optional)
Three Little Pigs Template

After reading your favorite version of The Three Little Pigs, divide students into groups of three. Provide each group with three paper bags and art supplies, so they can work together to create the houses made of straw, sticks, and bricks. You can stick with construction paper, or venture outside to collect some natural art supplies. (If you decide to use real sticks and straw, invite a parent volunteer to help with the hot glue gun.) Once each paper bag house has been decorated, show students how to gently stuff it with a couple sheets of newspaper, and then fold over the top and staple it shut.

Complete the three little houses by having students color, cut, and attach a pig from the Three Little Pigs Template. Keep the houses from blowing down by hanging them from your classroom ceiling or clothesline!

Piggy Cupcakes

Strawberry Cupcakes (baked ahead of time)
Containers of Strawberry Icing
Pink Wafer Cookies (pre-cut in half for the ears)
Chocolate chips (for the mouth and smile)

Here’s a yummy way to celebrate the conclusion of your Fairy Tale unit. Bake a batch of strawberry cupcakes ahead of time, and pass them out to students on the day you read The Three Little Pigs. Divide your class into small groups so they can share a container of strawberry icing, chocolate chips, and wafer cookies. They will love decorating their very own little pig as they listen to one last read aloud of this favorite fairy tale!
